We tend to look for happiness and we often think that once we achieve that one thing that we desire so intensely, then we will be happy. I have heard my friends say many times that they would be so happy if they had a certain type of car, a luxurious lifestyle, if they were married, had a partner, had a child, or had a certain career and the list goes on and on. As humans, we tend to focus on what is missing rather than what we have achieved. Although it seems like common sense, it’s not that easy to always be positive. What happens when something we desire so intensely is lost or never achieved? Will you be unable to keep on living your life? The answer is not really, you will continue to live, you will continue to go to work, to go to school, to be someone’s child, somebody’s spouse, somebody’s employee, etc. It’s not so much about what you will be but rather how you deal with life and the obstacles that are thrown at you. Life was never meant to be easy, especially in the chaotic world we live in today, life is unexpected, unpredictable, and sometimes devastating. But, let’s not forget that life is also full of joy, laughter, happy moments that may not last a lifetime but that happiness and joy are definitely there and at one point or another, you will experience it. So while life may not be the way you really wanted it to be, it is still better because it could have been worse. If you are having a rough day then just remind yourself of something very simple but yet very meaningful. If you have a roof over your head, a full stomach and someone by your side that cares for you, just be grateful and count your blessings. Especially, as its getting colder outside, be grateful for the warm bed, for the heater that keeps your house warm, for having a car or affording to take public transportation. In the end, it’s not about how much you have but it’s about what you do with what you have. Stay blessed and stay positive!
