Muslims are Not Perfect but Islam Is

I never thought that I would write about this topic, but here I am…Before being a hijabi, I always admired hijab and I knew that one day I will put it on. As I started studying more and learning more about my religion( Islam), I finally made the decision to wear hijab. I did not wear it to please people, the Muslim community or any other human being (which unfortunately is the judgment that some people make). I decided to wear it purely for myself and because I felt the need to. The first three months I did not notice any changes in life and I thought to myself. ” this is great, everything is still the same.” Little did I know that everything will change once I enter my Junior year at my University. I have never been exposed to so much judgment and so much criticism in my life as I have experienced it in just a few weeks of school ( University).

Please keep in mind that this a very small percentage of people but I’m just addressing this issue. These people are not representing Islam or Muslims in any way, it’s part of their personality and character.

I find it pretty disturbing that if one wears hijab then she’s expected to be perfect, make no mistakes and always do the right thing. I’m not saying that as a Hijabi we should do wrong but let’s face it, no Hijabi or Muslim does wrong on purpose so why do we judge and talk about what someone did wrong? That person can repent overnight and Allah SWT may forgive him or her. Therefore, every time someone mentions that sin, it will be a sin for the person who mentioned it! I urge our Muslims to stop focusing on the negativity, stop focusing on someone else’s sins and start being more positive and see the bright side of everything.

I also want our Ummah to understand that we should be helping to better one another not by pointing out what someone is doing wrong but by focusing on what they are doing right and by being a good example ourselves. For brothers that  tell sisters, ” you might as well take off your hijab since you are doing it wrong!”… please stop. At least she is trying! It’s little baby steps that will bring her closer to Allah SWT so, instead of praise your sisters for even considering to wear one because you do not know about her intentions and her struggles.

Now, I want to touch base on hijabis with attitude and arrogance. Yes, I know, it’s not something I want to even think about but, it breaks my heart to see something like that especially in the Muslim community. What happened to the teaching of Prophet Muhammad SAW and always being humble?  Alhamdullilah, I met a lot of nice, intelligent and humble sisters but unfortunately, I have met some with attitude as well. Some think they dress better, some think they are more religious, some think they are just better human being….I’m just really confused as of how this is even possible in  Muslim community! Beauty in Islam is not based on how you look, how you dress, your facial features or your skin tone. It is justified by your soul and your humble personality, by the way, you treat people and your intentions.

Keep in mind that Islam is perfect and Muslims are not! I’m not trying to judge anyone or accuse anyone of anything. All I want to do is bring an awareness to what we Muslims do not pay much attention to. We all make mistakes and it’s part of being a human but the best thing we can do is learn from our mistakes and from the mistakes of others around us. Don’t point it out but learn from it and be a great example for your community and people around you. And remember, every single person can make a difference!

Alhamdullilah for everything and may Allah SWT guide us all to the right path! ~ Ameen.

  1. Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this blog.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s hard to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness
and appearance. I must say you’ve done a excellent job with this.
Additionally, the blog loads extremely quick for me on Firefox.
    Outstanding Blog!

  3. I’m extremely impressed along with your writing skills and also with the structure to your weblog. Is that this a paid subject matter or did you customize it your self? Anyway stay up the excellent quality writing, it is uncommon to see a great blog like this one today..

  4. I appreciate the sharing of this information. I know little of Islam, but I do know that most true believers in their spiritual path believe also in humility and non-judgment. Know that your faith is not the only one who has imperfect humans on it and that followers of other faiths have been faced with these same things that you have been facing. Many blessings to you for this article. ❤
